Every decade has its own fashion statements. For us it was crocs, live strong bracelets, flip flops and much more. As most of you know the vocal pops concert is coming very quickly and the theme for the concert choir is 80s. Like most I was very confused on what to wear for this event. I am writing this blog to hopefully give a few tips. The Madonna look was very popular in the 80s. Some people would even draw a fake mole to look like hers. If you would walk down the street would see many neon colors, jean jackets, and ripped jeans. Biker shorts or spandex were popular under mini skirts. Many women were into the variety of colored pumps, converse high-tops, and jelly shoes which surprisingly are coming back. Many also wore long scarves, trench coats, and leggings.
Women wore their hair very big, like we say the bigger the better. They wore feathered hair, clips above the ears, big bows, banana clips and much more. They wore a lot of make-up. They were big into bright blue eye shadow and a lot of blush. They loved the pink lipstick and heavy eyebrows. They wore big hoops earrings or “door knocker earrings”. The nose piercing was also very popular.
Men wore ripped jeans and anything acid washed. Occasionally a few would wear bandannas sometimes around one boot or around the neck. Usually they would wear heavy metal t-shirts. Just like now the muscle shirts were also popular with the guys. Colored tennis shoes with white socks were very common. The fashion of the 80s is so close to ours yet so different. It goes to show that trends do come back. Right now the converse shoes, jelly shoes, and pumps are coming back. Ripped jeans and long scarves are also making a comeback. The only trend I don’t look for a comeback is the bandana around the boot.Respectfully Submitted,Jennifer Arkfeld
