Blog assignment #2, A revolution in printing, chapter 8-1

A Revolution In Printing:

In the 1890's, the literacy rate in the United States has risen to 90 percent! Publishers incressed their number of books, magazines, and newspapers to meet the rapidly growing demand of public reading.

American mills started to produce cheap paper from wood pulp. The paper provided durability to withstand high-speed presses. Th high tech electrically powered webprefecting press, it printed on both sides of a continuos paper roll, rather than many that only printed on one side. The machine then cut, folded, and even counted the number of copies printed. This great invention created faster production and lower costing newspapers and magazines to make them more affordable. After this people could buy newspapers for only a penny per copy!

The chinese were the first to invent printing. They simply used carved stones to make copies by sprinkling soot over them, then by placing a piece of paper on the soot and rubbing until the ashes came off on the stone. The oldest known printing was produced in China nearly 1,200 years ago.

My opinion of a revolution in printing is, it is an excellent invention in our everyday lives, we use printing in school almost everyday and it makes our lives so much easier so we dont have to write out everything.

I also think it is very interesting to learn that the chinese were the first to develop it with stones and soot. I really enjoyed this topic and learned alot!
