The 37th president of the United States and the only president to resign from the office, Richard Nixon has made U.S. history. He was elected as president in 1968 and resigned in 1974. As president he was involved in the Vietnam War, relations with the People’s Republic of China, and was also involved with the Soviet Union, but there was one event he was a big part of, the Watergate Scandal. The Watergate Scandal was a political scandal. It all began on June 17, 1972, with the arrest of five guys, Virgilio González, Bernard Barker, James W. McCord, Jr., Eugenio Martínez, and Frank Sturgis, under the charges of breaking and entering into the headquarters of the Watergate office complex. The FBI and the Senate Watergate Committee, House Judiciary Committee ruled that this event was an illegal event carried out by Nixon’s staff. The investigation revealed many scandals that were being carried out by the people of the White House. Scandals such as campaign fraud, illegal break-ins, illegal wiretappings and much more that were all covered up by President Nixon. A secret slush fund in Mexico was used to pay the sneaky people who helped with these crimes.10 days after Nixon heard of the promises of impeachment he signed his resignation. After retirement Nixon became an author and took many foreign trips. After suffering from a stroke he passed away on April 18, 1994 at the age of 81.
I personally think he did the right thing by resigning, the U.S. deserves better than a president that is going to help in committing illegal crimes. Although they were going to impeach him I think there should have been even more consequences for all that he did. If a resident of the U.S. did the same thing we would be jailed.I apologize; I don’t have an interesting ending to this blog entry. I personally think it speaks for its self. I think you can create the ending for yourself because I can’t tell you how to feel about it. Thanks for reading!Respectfully Submitted,2Jennifer
