In 1914 about 1 million children were going to school. By 1926 that number had risen to 4 million. Before the 1920s school was favored for collage bound students. Taxes to finance school went up also. School expenses doubled between 1913 and 1920, they then doubled again by the year 1926. Also after the war more children went to school so there were more jobs as teachers that were needed.

Teachers were very strict, if boys got in trouble they would be sent to the headmasters office.Girls were disciplined by writing out lines ( which were school rules) or sent outside the room. The students were also kept back after school. They were punished because they spelt words wrong, got music notes wrong, talking in class, even coming in late, messy work, blotches of ink on their work, punching someone in the back. 5 school days in a week and 6 hours a day. The school consisted of physical education (Includes push-ups and marching into the classroom), science, arithmetic, sport, history, music, geography, reading, writing, maths, exercises, English, drawing, craft, sewing, and spelling.

At lunch, the children would play marbles, hopscotch, football, hide and seek, red rover, soft ball, soccer, leap frog, singing, and many other games.
