In Harbin, China 42 people are dead and 66 people are believed to be trapped in a third of a mile underground after a huge gas accident on Saturday.Television footage shows smoke blowing out of the mine after the explosion that was caused by a gas build up. The explosion caused a building near by to fall to also.There was 528 miners underground at the time of the explosion and 389 of the miners managed to escape with very little scrapes. 31 miners were rescued and there are six in serious condition in the hospital. And 42 bodies have been recovered.One of the mines entrance in block so it make it very very difficult for the rescures to help the miners.The blast cut the power, ventilation and communication likes of so no one can have contant with anyone in the mine.Another difficultly is that there is snow dust on the ground and the temperature is goning to drop to 10 Celsuis which is 14 degrees fahrenheit.The blast underscores the difficulties the government faces in trying to boost up the safety while still maintaining their output. The coal is very important to the vast population and the growing economy. China uses about three- quarters of the electricity in gives off.The average number of miners killed--about six a day, in the first six months of this yearblames --failure to follow safety rules, including a lack of required ventilation or fire control equipment, for most of the deaths.In the first nine months of this year, China's coal mines had 11 such incidents with 303 deaths. Gas explosions were the leading cause,A blast at the Tunlan coal mine in northern China's Shanxi province in February killed 77 people in China's worst industrial accident in a year.
