Black History Month Blog-2/14

Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest boxers of all time. He won the World Heavyweight Championship three times. Ali also won a gold medal at the 1960 Olympics.

Ali was given the name of Cassius Clay at birth, but he later changed it because he was part of a Muslim group. When the Vietnam War started up, Ali refused to enter the military, because he disagreed with it and his religion. Muhammad was charged with not going into the draft, but he never went to jail.

Ali was very sure of himself when it came to boxing. One of his most famous matches was when he faced George Foreman in, "The Rumble in the Jungle." This was held in Zaire which is now the Democratic Republic of Congo. The fight ending with Ali knocking out Foreman, and Ali earned his second World Heavyweight Championship.

Ali has had four wives and nine children who he had with six different women. He has done a lot to help out his hometown of Louisville. Several years ago he was diagnosed with Parkinsons, because of his injuries from boxing.

I think he is a pretty inspirational guy for what he did in boxing. Ali is definitely someone who did what he wanted to.
