The Bessember Process was a cheap way to mass produce steel, it was invented by Henry Bessemer. It was meant to take out impurities in the molten iron by blowing air through it. Before this process came around, there was not way to give a cheap and strong product to people to build. So people would use wood to build buildings and then they would burn down. Luckily this process enabled houses and other buildings to be built better, stronger, and they laster longer.
The U.S. stopped using the Bessemer Process in 1968 because the process was so fast that it wouldn't clear out all the chemicals in it. They switched to a different process for their steel. The Bessemer Process is pretty much not used anywhere anymore. This process did completely change how products were made though. This was a rather big invention and with out it we could still be living in weak wood houses. Here's a picture of the machine that would heat the molten iron for the Bessemer Process.
