On Monday we filled out our Canada map and Mr. Bruns would like us to study them daily. My blog post from yesterday deleted. I am sorry, so I'll try to sum it up. We discussed talked about ISIS and how they are destroying cultures and life through the destruction of ancient artifacts. Artifacts are being destroyed and so are cultures and people from thousands of years ago.
Birthright citizenship means that a baby born in the U.S. is a citizen. These children are often referred to as "Anchor Babies." This phrase is often thought to dehumanize people. The waiting list to get to America is about 20 years. Many people come illegally to the U.S. to look for work. Illegal immigrants are often referred to as undocumented citizenship. Many people do not discuss illegal immigration due to the fact that they would lose voters. By 2040, Hispanics will be the biggest ethnic group in our country. Republicans often shy away from illegal immigration, but Donald Trump has taken this issue head on.
The southern state seceded after Abe Lincoln was elected. They set up the Confederate State of America. The Confederate flag was the flag for the Confederates. South Carolina flew the Confederate flag over the capital until recently, but was taken down due to the fact that it is thought to support slavery. Many believe it represents their history. The Governor has taken down the flag and has not flown it since. It is often compared to the Nazi Flag. The flag offends many African Americans also. Many colleges also have to change their mascots and their names, such as the Redskins or the Chiefs. Anyone can fly any flag personally. The Dukes of Hazard is also off TV because there is a Confederate flag on top of the car.
Donald Trump is gaining popularity because of his political inaccuracy. Trump speaks his mind. Hulk Hogan is facing heat because of the fact he said the n word in a video clip. He has practically been erased from all history, and his career is now in the trash.
Same sex marriage is legal in all fifty states. The Judicial branch allowed this decision to be made. There are now only two ways to make gay marriage illegal. A constitutional amendment is one way otherwise the Supreme Court has to come back and rule against their original ruling.
Europe, United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, South Africa, and New Zealand allow gay marriage. The U.S. was not the first country to allow gay marriage. The Netherlands was the first to allow gay marriage. This idea has picked up in the Western Hemisphere in the last fifteen years. Islam is very strict against homo-sexuality. Christian religions have become a little more open to gay marriage in recent years. The vast majority of students in the last five years don't disagree with same-sex marriage. The main argument is the bible against same sex marriage. The church and state cannot be combined. Constitutionally, you cannot stop gay marriage. There is a lot of religion in our history. We were founded on Christianity. America was founded by Protestants. If a more conservative group comes in to the Supreme Court we can change the law. Same sex marriage is supported by the majority of America.
The tallest point in the U.S. is Mt. McKinley is now Mt. Denali. The locals have always called the mountain Denali, so it was recently renamed by Obama. The mountain was named for President McKinley from Ohio. McKinley was shot and killed and was president for less than four years. Denali is now the highest point in the United States of America.
Auschwitz is now a museum and there is an extreme heat wave this year. Mist showers were installed at the entrance of the camp to "cool" people off. The engineer or designer may have forgotten millions died during the Holocaust.
The United States is average in education. Singapore is number one in Education followed by Hong Kong. Japan is always near the top of the list. Suicide rates are also very high. Over 18,000 people under eighteen have taken their lives from now to 1972. Today is the day where suicide happens the most in Japan, which is when school starts. Many Japanese students also bully kids who aren't as smart. The long break is heaven for those who are bullied and it takes a lot of courage, while many commit suicide.
Wednesday
We went over our Canada map and discussed our grading.
North Korea is one of the five communist countries in the world. Kim Jong-un is their leader. The war between North and South Korea is still going on today. They have very bad relations. North Korea has nuclear weapons. They aren't supposed to, but they do. The North stands no chance in the war. If North Korea attacks South Korea, we will attack. War could erupt at the snap of our fingers. We are very concerned about North Korea. They happen to be a major threat to our allies.
Scott Walker said 12 states will elect the next president. If you win the big states you should become president. The electoral college is the process in which we elect the president and vice- president of the u.s. If you win Iowa by one vote, you shall get all six votes. You need 270 electoral votes to become president. Candidates often times focus on sway states. Florida is one of the sway states and it all came down to Florida in the 2012 election as it also did in 2000 in the race between G.W. Bush and Al Gore. The chads had to be recounted. There were dimple chads and hanging chads, so they had to count them. Bush was only up 200 votes. The Supreme Court gave the election to George Bush. Al Gore had the popular vote, but did not get the electoral college vote. You could lose by millions and millions of popular votes, but you can still win. The electoral college is a bit of a messed up system. Florida is a very key state in elections. The 2000 election made people become interested in politics again. Iowa is also a sway state along with New Hampshire, Ohio, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Colorado. It comes down to these states on who shall become president. Iowa is important! We even kick things off in January with the caucus. Ohio, Florida, and North Carolina are bound to win you the election. The coasts are usually very Democratic. The election comes down to population. Most of the red is not densely populated. Democrats do very well in the cities. Republicans are very conservative and usually live in the country or not so densely populated. Democrats are usually more open to new ideas and gay marriage. Young people, women, and African Americans vote Democrat. Many Hispanics vote Democrat due to immigration issues and the fact that Democrats promote equal rights. African Americans usually voted Republican. Abraham Lincoln was Republican so many African Americans voted for Republicans up until about the 1960s. The solid south always used to vote Democrats. Johnson demolished Goldwater in one of the biggest blow-outs in history in the 1964 election. Democrats became the savior of the AFrican Americans as Republicans became more conservative. There are dozens and dozens of third parties! They have next to no chance of winning the presidential election. Donald Trump is considering becoming a third party candidate.
A new bug has appeared. It is white and fuzzy and was introduced in the 1990s.
My notes were all deleted again on Thursday. The American Populist Party. It started in 2009. introducing a series of 14 Constitutional Amendments United States government respects the limits of the constitution. preventing poverty, preventing unethical business transactions, sound monetary policy. Constitutional methods to accomplish those goals. The party platform considers the US Constitution grants limited powers by the people to the federal government to protect the natural rights of people. emphasizes checks and balances. preservation of individual rights and freedoms. They believe in free will. Constitutional Amendments were all focused on limiting special interest influence in national politics. background checks for elected officials. The party's proposed Constitutional spending limits on the federal government, restoring the balance of political power between the States and the federal government, and constraining the judiciary regarding the interpretation of the Constitution.
Deflate Gate- Tom Brady supposedly had the ball boys deflate the balls to make them easier to throw. NFL has certain regulations of how inflated the balls should be. Tom Brady also destroyed his phone. He originally had a 4 game suspension, but a federal judge revoked it yesterday. The NFL plans to appeal the case. NFL failed to give Brady proper notice.
The unemployment rate is the amount of people not seeking jobs for a specific amount of times or people without jobs. 5.1% of America is unemployed. 2008-2010 was a bad year for the economy and many people were layed off. The economic depression was sparked by bank bailouts. President Bush bailed out the major banks of the United States. The banks would have closed without the government stepping in. There were too many loans at the time and money was given out by the drop of a hat. The housing market crashed. The Great Depression had an unemployment rate of 25%. It is a cycle. The more you spend the better.
Same-sex couple marriage license- A devout Christian refused to give a same-sex marriage couple a marriage license. She was later jailed. The clerk is under god's authority. Her name is Kim Davis. Davis is currently appealing the order. Davis has divorced three times. The Supreme Court just denied a petition to Davis which stated she didn't need to hand out the licenses. She refuses to disobey God.
Trump now has 30% support and is constantly making news, as usual. Donald Trump is controversial, but is constantly gaining in support. He will not run for a third party. He is going to pledge to support any Republican Candidate. Transhumanist believes that technology can fix people's flaws. The Peace and Human Party started in the sixties. It began during the Vietnam war. National Socialist party started in 1974. They are anti-semitic. They want to preserve European culture. So what Nazi, Germany had. They are not very accepting of people that aren't WASP's. They want to get troops out of the Middle East. The Communist Party was established in 1919. The red scare. U.S. marijuana party- 2002. They want to make weed legal. They don't want to live in fear to smoke marijuana. Stop treating them like second-hand citizens. Marijuana is thought to be less addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. It is proven to affect undeveloped brains. It's a slippery slope. The green party is a major third party. It began in 1972 in New Zealand and Thailand and was formed in America in 2001. They want people to have direct democracy. They want non-violence and social justice. They had a candidate for the 2012 election. The Prohibition party- opposition in 1919 to alcohol. One of the three oldest existing party. Part of the Temperance Party. They are still pushing for the Prohibition of alcohol. There are several "dry" counties around the U.S. that don't serve alcohol. The World Worker's party was founded in 1959. They want respect and compassion along with better pay and shorter hours. The Modern Whig party started in 1864. They wanted everyone to work cooperatively. They supported a high tariff. Socialist worker's policy it began in 1938. They were communists. They are very supportive of Cuba. United State's Pacifist Party.
