Mr Bruns Ten Events that Shaped US History. 

1. Native Americans Coming and Going (10,000+ years ago)

2.  Exploration (1492-early 1600's)

3.  Colonization (early 1600's-1770's)

4. Revolutionary War (1775-1783)

5. US Constitution(1789)

6. Westward Expansion(1800's)

7.  Texas War for Independance (1835-36)

     Mexican American War (1846-1848)

8. Civil War(1861-1865)

9. Reconstruction(1865-1877)

 

Thursday

The Europeans and eventually the United States forced Native Americans from their ground, lied to them, stole from them, killed them just to get their resources. 

The U.S. killed buffalo because they were so important to the Indians, and causes close to a mass extinction 

The Indian Removal Act (1830-1840) 

The Age of Exploration( Spain, France, Portugal, Netherlands) 

 

When Columbus came to the New World, he discovered Hispaniola(Hati and Jamaica) Cuba, and the Bahamas 

Ferdinand Magellan- First Person to circumnavigate the World 

Coronado- The First Person to explore Central United States 

Cortez- The Person whom destroyed the Aztecs 

Pizarro- Conquered the Incas 

Ponce De Leon- Sailed to Florida 

 

Cabot- Explored Canada, Looking for the Northwest Passage 

Drake- Went Around the World Sailed Up the West Coast of North and South America 

The Explorers were all after gold, but not all of them found gold, so they toomek what ever they could make money off of. 

 

The Spanish had Most of South America, All of Central America, and Southwest North America

Friday 

The First Symbol of the Colonies "Don't Tread on Me"  Was used to give warning to British Authorities to stay away and let them be

The First Paragraph of the Declaration tells as to why they are overthrowing the British, which is because they were not protecting their rights, which were: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. 

The Main Body of the Declaration tells of all the acts King Henry and the British commited.

The Last Paragraph says that they are declaring themselves independant

The Articles of Confederation: made states more powerful than the Federal Government, in which they could refuse taxes, not send troops, but in return, they only got one vote per state, which would leave more populous state underepresented. 

The U.S. constitution is a living establishment of our goverment, everchanging, which creates the three branches of goverment and helps protect our rights. 

The Three Branches are: Legislative, Executive and Judicial. 

There are 100 Senators, and 435 Representives 

The Congress makes laws, set taxes, declare war, override vetos, borrow money, Regulate international and national trade, and print money.
