Native American got to America by a land bridge during an Ice Age.

Thursday- We moved the Native Americans, tried to Europeanize them, lied to them, stole from them, ect. The Indian Removal act  was not orignally supposed to force them out. Orignially if they voluntarily left they would have been given money, but instead Americans forced them out.  Spain, France, Great Britian, and Portugal were the main four countries to explore during the era of the Renesance. Christopher Columbus did not actually see America when he first travelled.  Life was horible for Native American's during this time. Coronado was the first one to explorer central America and into Mexico- got really close to Iowa. Hernand Cortez was famous for conquering the Aztecs. Pizarro conquered the Incas. Flordia was part of spain. Cabot explored Canada- Northwest Passage. Drake- travled around the world, went up and down the Coast of South and North America.  All explorers were after Gold. Only Cortez found Gold, other found many things.  The Goal was to make money.

Spain- Flordia, Southwest US, South America, and much of the Caribeans.

Portugal- Brazil

French- Central US and Parts of Canada

Great Britian- Northern America and East Coast of US

Thirteen Colonies- Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Deleware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachuttes, Conneticut, Road Island, and New Hampshire.

Revolutionary War-  French and Indians vs England and Colonist. France was kicked out.  British went into debt and enforced taxes while making new taxes. No taxation without representation.

Proclimation of 1763- Britian drew a line- colonist on one side and Indians on one side.  British did a good thing

Boston Massacur- British Soilders shot and killed five Boston residents

Boston Tea Party- Dumped Tea into Boston harbor- to get back at Britian. Lead to the intolerable act.  Closed the Boston Harbor, and started the quartering act.  Massachuttes was now under the Kings rule.

We talked a bit about the constutution.

Friday- The rattlesnake was the flag for the colonist. Meant to be patriotic and anti-british. This was also used for the marines. Rattlesnakes were found all over.  It seemed racist.  It was for an early day cartoon.

Declaration- It outlines what the king did and other things durring the revolutionary war. Men are created equal (white men). Goverment gets there power from the people (we have the right to overthrow the british goverment. We make the statement about us becoming seperated from Britian.  Everyone sighns, and John Hancock was the one to stand out.

Articles of Confederation- (1781-1788) The Un-United States of America, it was like thirteen little countries. They didn't want someone to tell them what to do, and they had their own currency.  States were given more power than the government.

Weakness-

  1. Taxation
  2. Trade and Commerce
  3. No National Military
  4. One Vote Per State
  5. Unanimus vote to change
  6. No national courts
  7. No executive Branch

Constutution Convention- (1787) A living document that establishes our three branches of government and protects our rights. Articles of Confederate failed which is why this was established. Checks and Balances were to make sure one branch did not get to powerful.  James Madison was the Father of the constutution.  The senate and house of representative are the two houses.  Two senators per state, and the house of representative is based on state population.

Senate- 6 years term 30 years atleast

House of Representatives- 2 year terms 25 years atleast

Powers of Congress-

  1. make laws
  2. set taxes
  3. declare war
  4. override vetos
  5. borrow money
  6. regulate international and national trade
  7. print money
