11. describe the early development of u.s. political parties: Started in 1792 with jefferson and hamilton disagreeing over a lot of things. Jefferson believed in the constitution very strictly and hamilton was more loose about it. Hamilton wanted national bank, tj didnt. Bank started taxing unfairly. Jefferson supported the French revolution. George Washington usually supported Hamilton. He also didnt want political parties. Hamilton wanted rich to control things, Jefferson wanted farmers to. Hamilton was shot and killed by Jeffersons vp.
12. describe the accomplishments of washington, jefferson, and jackson as presidents: Washington- first president, set a standard. Step down after 2 terms even with no ammendment. Set up the cabnet, helped supreme court get going. Everyone looked at him as leader. Jefferson- believer in states rights. purchased Louisiana purchase. Jackson- wanted to help common people. States didnt want to follow laws, but forced them, making federal govt strongest. Trail of Tears, first national bank.
13. describe the causes and effects of the war of 1812: the us vs great britain. We didnt like them, border disputes. British kept ceasing american sailors, impressing them. Disagreements on who won, a lot belive Great Britain won. effects- us gained respect, us felt united, cotton manufacturing was better.
14. describe causes and effects of texas war for independence- conflict between mexico govt and american settlers. supposed to live by rules govt set, converting to catholism, become mexican, renounce american citizenship, learn spanish (gross!). Alamo- 187 texans waited 13 days to be attacked by 6000 mexicans. All texans died. Texas won. effects- independant nation, joined us in 1845.
15. describe causes and effects of mexican american war- 1850s: causes- territory, americans and mexicans thought that the border line was in different place. Texans thought it went to the rio grande, mexico thought it went to the neuces. We went down there and mexico thought we were invading and attacked. effects- us won, got a bunsh of land. treaty of guadalupe hidalgo ended the war and we got the mexican , paid 15 million and got southwest part of the us. took about 50% of mexico.
16. describe reasons people move westward in early parts of our history: the civil war ended and gold rush started in 1849. when they went to cali there wasnt a lot of gold. religious freedom moved to utah, mostly mormons. farmland. any other riches.
