4. Describe reasons why Europeans came to America.- the Spanish were in Mexico and Europe noticed that the they were getting rich so the came to America looking for riches. A lot of imigrants were indentured servants trying to start over, you become a slave for about 7 yrs and then buy your freedom. Free religion, trying to get away from the catholic church.
5. New England- It was a lot like england. They couldnt do a lot of farming because of bad soil. It became the center of industry. Middle- lots of ports and boats and shipping. not as business or agricultryly oriented. South- settled by wealthier people. Less people, more land. Farming and based on plantations. Brought over slaves.
6. Causes and effects of French and Indian war: French and Indians were on the same team fighting England. Causes- british wanted to take over canada and louisiana purchase. whoever won would be dominating colonial power in n. america. British won, french was kicked out, British took over Canada. Farthest point west that colonist could move- line of proclimation. Effects- more conflicts because whites kept wanting to move further. Great Britian got in debt because of the war and Britain started inforcing taxes.
7. Causes and effects of Revolutionary war: American colonists vs british. Causes- British raising taxes, No taxation without representation. they were getting taxed without being able to be represented in Great Britian. desire for independence, lack of communication.. took a while to get letters and what not.influential letters started calling for war.
8. Describe the purpose of the declaration of independance and what it talked about: to declare our independance in writing. all men are equal so its fair to get independance. rights of life liberty and pursuit of happiness. majority talks about the wrongs of King George the 3.
9. describe set up of the articles of confederation and why it failed: how the us government was supposed to operate, first government right after confederate war. congress had 1 representative from every state and no president. failed because the had no taxation so they couldnt get money to go to war. gave most of the power to the state governments, federal govt had very little power. federal govt had no money. ultimatly failed because 13 states didnt agree on anything, had no money.
10. describe what the us constitution does including ammendments: establishes our govt system, the 3 branches, executive, judicial, and legislative. bill of rights, first ten ammendments, protects peoples rights. a lot of amendments about voting, slavery, and alcohol.
