Attack on Pakistan Police Center Kills 18 Officers

At least 18 officers were killed at a Pakistani police training facility on Sunday August 30, 2009. The suicide attack also wounded 12 others. The police training facility was located in Northwestern Pakistan, at the city of Mingora. The suicide bomber jumped over the outside wall at the facility, the bomb went off while 50-75 new police recruits were training.Mingora is a large city and is the entrance to Province’s Swat Valley. In the Swat Valley, Pakistani and Taliban militaries are fighting to take control of the valley. The day before the attack Pakistani militants killed 6 Taliban military members and wounded several others, while trying to take over the Swat Valley in Mingora.

The Pakistani Army launched the mission in Swat Valley, in response to the presence of suicide bombers and terrorism masterminds in the town of Mingora. The militants had been using a safe zone to launch attacks to protect the city. I think that using a safe zone is okay because I do not think that as many innocent civilians will get hurt if they use a safe zone.I think that this is a very sad story. These poor men that died and were wounded were training to be able to protect the civilians from attacks like these. I believe that the men that died probably wanted to help other people in bad situations. I think that the men that were wounded will probably be more dedicated to becoming police officers because they know what can happen when people break the law. All in all this is a very sad story.-Nathan Ohms
