This is my assigned web log, which is over the topic of: The Rwanda Genocide of 1994. All in all, it is the mass murder of Tutsis. The genocide was directed by the [roughly] 85 percent of the Rwandan population with the Hutu descent. I feel obligated to mention the whereabouts of Rwanda, which is a tiny country in East Central Africa. What events led to this horrid event, bro?Well, prior to the genocide of the Tutsi people, there had been a civil war in Rwanda from late 1990 to 1993. The tension between the two groups had gone way back, but the jist of it was because of political differences. The government(which obtained further help from France) had a democracy with President Juvénal Habyarimana, whereas a rebel group, called the Rwandese Patriotic Front, or RPF, claimed that if the government didn't allow the Tutsi people to be admitted to their country and accepted as people. However, the Hutus in Rwanda believed the Tutsis as an evil aristocracy, which is a form of government that is run by the most elite of the citizens. But what really set off the Hutu people was when their beloved president was killed. It occured when he was on a flight from Arusha and his plane was shot down.
This is Kigali, a city in Rwanda. This is the location where the Rwandan government staged a fake attack, which had gunfire and explosions, to scare the citizens to approve of going to war with the RPF. This reminds me of the conspiracy theory of how some claim the Bush administration crash the two jets into the twin towers to make scared civilians allow us to go to war in Iraq. What exactly happened, yo?Subsequent to the events that were aformentioned, the Rwandan military and Hutu militia posses (slang) set out to murder all Tutsis, regardless of age, gender, or even their political level. This all took place between the timespan of April 6th of 1994 to mid-July National radio stations advised people to stay within the safe areas they call "home," while the Hutu military was setting up roadblocks everywhere, to deny people of leaving. The first major incident occured at a Polish church in Gikondo, where observers from the United Nations witnessed the brutal murdering [in the general range] of 110 innocent citizens, including children. On this same day, armed European troops joined the party to remove European inhabitants from the bloodbath, as did Americans, when they evacuated Ambassador Rawson and up to 250 citizens for our awesome country. Most victims were found in schools or churches, where they were hiding before being hacked with machetes by the Hutu mobs. As opposed to the Nazi Germany massacre of Jews, the Hutu made no slightest attempt to keep record of the number of people murdered. Nobody knows the total number of people killed during this hate crime, but it is estimated between 500,000 and up to 1,000,000
This is a picture of the genocide itself, many residents being murdered and bodies lying around. I used this picture because I thought there wasn't necessarily anything on here that would offend anybody. What happened after the genocide, dude?In July of 1994, when the Tutsi rebels overcame the Hutu forces, the genocide ended. After this, nearly two million Hutu refugees fled to surrounding countries, Uganda, Zaire, and Burundi, to name a few. A few years later, Rwanda invaded Zaire, which led to the First Congo War. Another year or so after THAT, the Second Congo War initiated. In 2003, this war ended, and kept record as the deadliest war since the World War II.What does the wonderful Jordan Gaul believe about all this jazz?I personally believe that stories like this are terrible, and they bother me. I don't like the fact that people are killed because of their religious beliefs. Live and let live. GAUL OUT
