In January 10th 1901 a prospector and a mechanic found the first signs of oil in Texas.In the 1900s the bessemer process was created which allowed steel mills to produce 90% more steel than they could with traditional methods.In 1883 the Brooklyn bridge was completed. Also during that year William Baron created the nations first skyscraper, the Home Insurance Building of Chicago. In 1876 Thomas Edision created the worlds first laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. 4 years later Edison created the Incandescent light bulb. In 1867 Christopher Sholes created the typewriter. Alexander Gram Bell created the telephone in 1876. In 1890 the workday decreased to 10 hours. By 1910 40% of the workforce was made up of women.
