The Treaty of Versailles was was a peace settlement signed after World War One had ended. The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919 at the Versailles Palace which is located near Paris. This was exactly five years after the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. What did the Treaty of Versailles do exactly you might ask. The treaty ended the war against Germany and the Allied Powers. At this time the Allied Powers consisted of France, Italy, US, and UK.
The Treaty of Versailles was only one of five Treaties that ended World War One. The Treaty of St. Germain against Austria, the Treaty of Trianon against Hungary, the Treaty of Neuilly against Bulgaria, and the Treaty of Sevres against Turkey all were issued during the Paris Peace Conferance of 1919. The Treaty of Versailles basically blamed Germany for causing World War One. Germany accepted the blame for the war and in turn made payments called reparations to the Allies in many forms. Reparations were paid monthy by Germany and totaled nearly 6,600 million dollars. Germany agreed to give up nearly 15 percent of its territory. I think the most interesting part of the Treaty of Versailles is that Germany was forced by the Allies to sign the Treaty because if they didnt they threatened to resume the fighting between the two.
I believe that the Treaty of Versailles definilty caused World War 2. The treaty made the Germans mad and in turn made them want to get even with them. The treaty not only took away Germany's land but also the abundance of natural resources inculded in the land. This caused the German people to go into a depression. At this time most people were beggining to join the National Socialist Party lead by Adolf Hitler. Because of this Hilter was becoming ever so powerful with so many followers.
