The History of The Taliban

The Taliban ran the government from 1996 to 2001 during Afghanistan's civil war. They had 90% of the land and they're laws included bad treatment of women and supporting terrorists. However, in 2001, after the September 11th attacks, the United States kicked the Taliban out of power when they invaded Afghanistan in December of 2001.

The Taliban are part of the Mujaheddin which translates to holy warriors which makes them extremists. They formed in 1979 in Afghanistan just as the other Mujaheddin did because of the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan. At one point in the 90's Afghanistan was ruled by terrorists and warlords because the Mujaheddin groups tried to set up a government that only led to fighting. In 1994 the Taliban were making their rise to power by taking over Kandahar, but they weren't safe so they hired more Taliban to protect the route they were taking from Warlords and other terrorist groups. After they took the city of Kandahar they moved on to take Kabul in Afghanistan.

Surprising enough the Afghan people were glad to see the Taliban take control of Afghanistan because the previous rulers were ruthless warlords that no one liked. The Taliban's ruler, Mullah Muhammad Omar, restored peace and eliminated corruption along with making everyone follow the Islamic Law.  Although, public executions at soccer games happened more often and crazy and interesting enough they outlawed flying kites because they wanted to get rid of Non-Islamic influences. When they took over Kabul in 1996 right away they forbade girls to go to school and didn't allow women to work outside the house. Also, women couldn't leave the house unless they were accompanied by a male relative as an escort.

This is the rise to power of the Taliban. One of the most ruthless, dangerous, and feared terrorist groups in the world.

  • Good job overall! Be sure to include your personal thoughts about the topic and also be sure to proofread to make sure that everything flows well. For example, your first paragraph should be about the origins with what you have there later on. You want to tell the chronological story of the Taliban.
