The Emperor
The movie The Emperor is a historical fiction on the true horrors of war. The scene is set in 1945-1946 post war, where everyone is
either settling down from the excitement, or grieving the loss of a home, loved one, or both. On August 6th and 9th of 1945, 225,000 lives
where extinguished within 72 hours. This movie depicts how, after America had completely destroyed their homes, came back to try and
rebuild. Bonner Fellers is a Brigadier General sent with a small armed force, sent with the job of arresting war criminals. Among these
criminals is General Tojo, the man that hurled America into the war. Many of the criminals committed suicide before they were able to
be punished, and General Tojo was almost one of them. Upon his capture, Fellers was informed by Supreme Commander of the
American Armed Forces, Douglas MacArthur that Emperor Hirohito was to be tried for breaking war agreements. Fellers is then tasked
with an impossible job. Arrest a god. Amidst the action and adventure this film portrays another story. Before the war had even
started, Bonner met a girl. A foreign exchange student, studying abroad. Her name is Aya Shimada. Aya leaves Bonner, and hurries
back to Japan, consequently, right before the war starts. Now that Bonner is in Japan he tries to hunt her down, which adds heartache,
and emotion to a very serious and action packed movie. Overall, the plot and acting of this movie depict the seriousness and tragedy
of the war, and show just how terrible two bombs can be.
