Assigned Blog- Erwin Rommel

While researching the second part of my world war 2 project I ran accros a person i thought to be pretty interesting. His name is Erwin Rommel. Erwin was born on November 15, 1891 in Heidenheim, Germany. When Erwin was a young adult he had dreams of being an engineer but when his father disaproved he decided to join the German Army in 1910.

Throughout his life Erwin has had his share of accomplishments. In January fo 1915 he fought on the Western Front and recieved an Iron Cross. In 1917 Erwin Rommel led an attack on Monte Matajur. After that attack Rommel was promoted to captain. Throughout 1929 Erwin worked as an instructor at the Infantry School in Dresden. He also tought at the Potsdam War Acadamy and was appointed to the rank of lieutenant colonel in October of 1935. I find this list of accomplishments of this one person to be outstanding.

Being the exelent teacher he was Erwin Rommel published a book on infantry tatics in 1937. One person that was quite impressed with his book was Adolf Hitler. Hitler liked his book so much that he arranged for Erwin to command his HQ staff in two differant locations.

Erwin commanded the 7th Panzar Division which invaded France in the year 1940. With Rommel in command, his troops were among the fastest and most progressive in military history. Because of his efforts in his French invastion Rommel earned the rank of general. Before long Rommel was one of the most wanted men around. Mussolini wanted him to help in North Africa but Hitler made him commander of the Deutsches Afrika Korps. As commader of his Korps he drove the British Army out of Libya. He then led his troops to Egypt but was defeated by the United States Army.

Erwin Rommel was sent to head the German Army in France where they proceed to prepare for an Allied Invastion. The Allied troops destroyed them in Operation Overload which occured on July 15, 1944. After Operation Overload Rommel warned Hilter that they were possibly going to loose the war and that he should end it.

In 1944 Hitler found out Rommel was going to attempt to kill him. On October 14 of the same year Hilter sent two generals to Rommel stating that he would either commit suicide with a state funeral and protection for his family and staff or trial for high treason. Erwin then decided to take the poisen the generals had gave him which resulted in his death due to a brain seizure.

I fount Erwin Rommel to be a very interesting guy. I cant believe how talented he was to be ranked so high and have the ability to teach other troops. I had never heard of this guy before i started this research. I am glad I found out so much about Erwin Rommel and about his life.
