Assigned Blog: Current Event: Flood In Mexico

This past week in the area of Toluca, Mexico there were unusual storms causing a landslide and 29 deaths. These storms closed schools, closed roads, and flooded many homes. The heavy rain sent rivers to flow over there banks which killed at least 16 people on Wednesday and Thursday. Mexico normally has very dry winters so these rain storms were a shock to most people.

Heavy rains loosened boulders and mud which fell onto a highway killing ten people, nine men and one woman, on Friday afternoon. Also, atleast twenty more people were reported missing in that slide. At least 2,000 homes were damaged during that storm. The federal government declared three townships disaster zones so there would be open access to relief funds.

The rains hit Mexico City and some of the sewage canals overflowed. The dirty water flowed into thousands of homes. Emergency personnel had to ferry people from their houses because the water was chest high. Overall, about 7,500 homes were flooded. Crews drained the flooded areas and put sand bags around draining channels. The skies in Mexico finally began to clear on Friday.

I feel that this devastating to all the families who lost their homes, all their belongings, and most importantly their loved ones. This will obviously take a while to regroup from and fix all the damages, it'll probably take a lot of money too. I feel so bad for all those people who lived in that area.
