I read Chapter Eight section two this time and foud this very interesting. So as i was already aware that most states founded or created public schools during the CIvil War, but i did not know that many children still did recieve the proper education that they needed. "The majoritly of those who went to school left within four years, and most did not go to high school.""Between 1865 and 1895, states passed laws requiring 12 to 16 weeks annually of school attendance by students between the ages of 8 and 14." The required curriculum included reading, writing, and arithmatic. But although the school taught the required skills, uneven quality of teachers caused arguements and cruality. In no time, students became extremely miserable withthe strct rules and harsh physical punishment.Due to this, a very hiih number of students starting at kindergarten began using the public school system. But because the whites starting going to elementarty schools., it wasnt until the 1940's that tghe majority of blacks were offered an education. As time pasted and by the 1990's, more than half a million students attended high school.I am glad that blacks were finally offered an educaation and are finally treated like any other human being, but i also think it was unfair to them back then. Black skin compared to while s\kin is no different than somebody with blonde hair or somebody iwht black hair. or somebody whos short, compared to somebody whos tall. Overall its something you just cant control, and i dont think you should be judged on those type of things.
