Consequences for Iraq after the war in 1990:
The Iraq War in 1990, also known as the Persian Gulf War, took a devastating toll on the Middle Eastern country. Some 35,000 Iraqi soldiers and civilians were killed and thousands more were injured over the thirteen year period. Countless more Iraqi people were left homeless when they’re houses and buildings were destroyed and depleted to nothing but rubble. Much of the country now lives in poverty.

Iraq supplies a vast majority of the oil that is used by the United States and much of their economy is centered around and dependent upon its production. During periods of time when Iraq was not facing major conflicts, the country’s oil production went up to about 1 billion barrels per year. During the war in 1990 however, Iraq’s oil production was heavily impacted.
The cost of the Iraq war was very high. The United States alone spent about $60 billion and the cost of reconstruction for the devastation in Iraq was very high as well.
