Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual rememberance of famous black people that made a difference in the world during a time of racism, and also religious hatred. It was started in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. It was first called "Negro History Week." It is celebrated in Canada and the US in February. It is also celebrated in the UK in October. Carter G. Woodson decided to celebrate it during the second week of February because two people who played major roles in abolishing slavery and improve the lives of African Americans had their birthdays during the second week of February. These two people were Frederick Douglass who helped to abolish slavery and was a former slave but escaped from slavery, and Abraham Lincoln who was president during a very racist time. Lincoln signed the 13th amendment which abolished slavery in the US, but slavery in the south still continued because they knew nothing was going to happen to stop what they were doing.

The person i chose to research is Michael Jackson.

Micheal Jackson is pretty much known as the king of pop. He was born on August 29th, 1958 and died on June 25th 2009..He started his music career in the Jackson 5 with his brothers. He changed the way music videos were performed...from mainly a promotional tool to a dancing clinic. his movements on the dance floor were so flawless and just downright amazing..his most popular dance moves which were also his most complicated techniques were the robot and the moonwalk.his personal life produced a lot of controversy from the late 1970's and on. This turmoil was caused because he recieved changes to his nose and skin color which promoted a lot of bad media for michael. But probably one of the worst media blow-ups was when michael had been accused for child sexual abuse in 1993 and again in 2005, but no charges were pressed. He won 15 grammy awards and 26 american music awards in his fine career. His 1982 album Thriller is still the most sold album in history. Michael has three children. He died as a result of cardiac arrest.

I thought Michael was the perfect black icon. All sorts of different people loved him..he could sell out any concert he was a part of.. He was good for black people, because for once a black person was in the spotlight and getting all the love.

  • You should have two sources for each blog. Try to expand a bit more as well. You have one paragraph about Jackson life.
