I have decided to do my blog over Marcus Garvey. Marcus Mosiah Garvey was born on August 17, 1887 in St. Ann's Bay witch is located in Jamacia. He spent most of his life working for equal rights for his African American people. At the age of 14 Marcus dropped out of school to work as a printers apprentice. Booker T. Washington invited Marucs to the United States in 1916 in hopes of making an idustiral training school. Washington died right before Garvey could arrive in the United States. Once settled in the U.S. Marcus created a chapter called the Universal Negro Improvment Association (UNIA) and also the African Communities League(ACL). The purpose of these organizations was to up lift the spirits of black people all around the world. It focused at racial pride, self reliance, and economic independance.
Due to the succesful organizations created by him, Marcus Garvey, soon became one of the most popular and dynamic African leader around. In 1920 the UNIA had several divisions.The UNIA had 30 branches and over 2 million members by the year 1919. They held conventions and and created a newspaper called the Negro World witch was published weekly. The UNIA and ACL were some of the most impactful and successful organizations of its time. These organizations were active in most of american, the carribian, Astrailia, Africa, and Europe.
While in the United States Garvey started to form an army. He found american people that were willing to travel to Africa and to "Clear out the White Invaders". He then well equiped his army with clothing and weapons.
