Assigned Blog 3:Syrian Uprising

In January of last year, during the chain of Arab uprisings, Syria started protesting. In March it grew into a full uprising, with protesters demanding the president to step down and the overthrow of the government that had been under Ba'athist rule. Tactics used include hunger strikes, vandalism, marches, and rioting. When the protest started to grow the government tried to use soldiers to stop it. This however, turned out to be a bad move as a lot the soldiers had issues with their orders and were either executed on the spot, or joined the resistance. The USA and UN condemned the actions of the government attacking unarmed protesters but did little to interfere.
