Assigned blog #3

Main topic- Fads and Entertainment in the 1930’s.Assigned Blog topic- Games in the 1930’sGames in the 1930’sDuring the 1930’s people played several games, it was entertainment for them. Some of the games they played in the 1930’s are still around today. Some games that are very popular today were created and once played in the 1930’s. The names and rules have just changed slightly. Monopoly was created in 1934 by Charles B. Darrow; it was a very popular game and still is. The name has not changed but the rules have changed slightly. Now there are many types of Monopoly as well. Garden Golf, very similar to miniature golf, was a game played in the 1930’s by people of all kind. They used rails and bumpers to confine the ball in a boundary. The playing surface was hard-pressed cottonseed hulls which made the putting area nice and smooth. Jonny on a Pony was a multiplayer outdoor game enjoyed by many. It was more of a street game played by young children. Stoop Ball was an inner city game played by throwing a ball up on to the stoop or staircase from the outside pavement. Another game that is similar to a game very popular today is Stick Ball. It is like baseball, except in has a different name and was not played on a diamond. Stick Ball was played in the streets of the bigger cities and had rules slightly different than the baseball that we play today! Although the names of the games have changed and the rules are more definite, the purpose is the same! We all play games as a way of entertainment and we usually find great joy while doing it.Below is a photo of the street game, Stick Ball.

Below is a photo of several boys playing Johnny on a Pony.

For my assigned blog I chose to write about games that came out and were played in the 1930’s. I am really interested in this and I think it’s neat how we still play some of these games they just have different names and the rules have been changed slightly. I think that the people in the 1930's probably appreciated these games more than we do today just because of all the other things we have to entertain us!Sources:http://www.hackelbury.co.uk/artists/leipzig/leipzig_pic10.htmlhttp://www.usa-people-search.com/content-american-history-of-the-1930s.aspx
