Assigned Blog 2- Letters from Iwo Jima

Letters from Iwo Jima follows the lives of those Japanese soldiers that fought to their death in order for Iwo Jima to not be knocked down by the American lines. This movie showed me the hardships that all the Japanese went through in order to fight for their Imperial Empire. One of the things that I didn't like was that if you wanted to surrender, but were given the order to stay and fight, the best thing you could do for an honorable death was to kill yourself. If you escaped to another part of the forces, then you would be killed for having not died with your men. Letters from Iwo Jima was seeing what the Japanese soldiers went through during their side of the war. This war was fought with the intent that everyone would go home to their families, but most did not. To the families that lost a loved one, I'm sorry for what has happened to them, but they fought courageously to protect you and their country.

I would give Letters from Iwo Jima a 5 out 5 stars. This movie showed me what our enemies possibly went through. Throughout this whole movie I was crying because these courageous men never got to see their families again, and even when they surrendered, they were still killed for thought that they would be a hindrance. The actors/actresses played their parts well, and showed everyone that they could, to a certain extent, handle what happened during the war. If I was in their place, I would have probably done the same thing as them, throw my life away in order for my country to win, be it that I'm killed in action or by the ignorance of my superiors. The effects of the movie were so realistic that I felt as though I was standing there watching as everything happened. Not once did I stop to think about the American side in this, but I could see that everyone has a story, be it as a soldier or as a civilian.
