Assigned Blog #2 --Character's promoting junk food?

What draws you toward junk food? Nutrition experts are saying that the pictures of cartoon characters on the the packaging are drawing the kids toward the food. A study for this took place at Yale at the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity. Forty children, ages four to six were given three snacks. Graham crackers, gummy fruit and carrots. One package had Scooby-Doo, Dora or Shrek, and the other didn’t. More then two thirds said they would choose the snack with the character on it. About half said that the package with the character had a better taste. The survey showed how big an influence these characters have on these kids. It may not be a good thing that the characters are influencing them on though, because not all are for fruits and veggies but junk food too. Parents have said there is always a fight in the store when they go with their kids, because the food with characters are always what the kids want.

---I think that the kids may be drawn to that food because the character, but if you don’t want your kid eating junk food, it doesn’t matter if there is a character on the food or not. You want your child to be healthy and get whats best for them. You can’t let a picture of a character control what your kid is eating.
