Windtalkers
The movie Windtalkers started off in the Solomon Islands in the year 1943. This movie happened while World War 2 was going on, so it is showing that more than just the world war was happening during that time. There was a lot of fighting going on and they were all running out of ammo and Corporal Joe Enders (played by Nicholas Cage) said that they had a mission and had to keep to it so they kept trying to fight. He said that none of them would die and that they were all going to go home. None of them did except him after a grenade got launched into where they were hiding. He then loses most of his hearing in his left ear and can't be in the war anymore.
It then switches to a couple months later to Kanoe Bay U.S. Naval Hospital where men got trained to fight and Joe is there and he meets his nurse who eventually turns into the love of his life, Rita. He then goes and cheats his was through a hearing test with the help of his nurse friend. Now, Joe is back in uniform and is given a mission of protecting the "code". He is now a Sargent and he is back in training. Joe meets the Navajos who are called the windtalkers. Ben Yahzee is the younger one of the Navajo and White Horse or "Charlie" is the older one that Ben dragged him along. Ben has a terrible first impression with Joe and he spills his dinner all over him. Now, they are shipping out to the island of Saipan in the morning and it was said that there were three thousand soldiers waiting for them to come.
When they get there, they are fired at immediately. There were some trenches but those didn't help much due to aircraft in the war. There were also tanks that got taken out by flamethrowers and grenades. Ben and Charlie tell the ships the coordinates of the enemies' fire and the ships shoot shells the size of Volkswagens from 20 miles away. To win over this section, Joe had to take down the satchel charge and that is exactly what he did in two attempts after dropping the bag that had the explosives in it the first time but then got it in the satchel charge the second time.
Next, they are on their way to a more northern part of Saipan. They are getting fired at and a lot of men are getting killed. Joe had to do something, and fast. Since Ben looks like an Indian, so Joe went to the Japanese looking like Ben's prisoner and they got to talk on their radio since Ben's got shot and it caught fire. They got to talk on the radio and got them to stop firing. For saving the men that were still alive and with them, Joe got a bronze medal.
After that night, they all went into a town and found it secure. They then stayed there for a while. Joe went to the head of where they were and said he "can't preform his duty". Right after he said that, a swarm of enemies came and started firing. Charlie got taken hostage and a part of the "code" said that if one gets captured or gets taken, you have to kill him due to the risk of word getting out. So, Joe had to eventually kill Charlie. Ben is so furious of Joe killing Charlie that he almost killed Joe.
Their next mission is to go up the hill. Out of no where, a guy yells freeze right before one of their friends stepped on a field mine. The enemies shoot the mines making them blow up and they all just kept running and hoped they didn't step on one themselves. They find their camp on the hill and they see their men going down the hill. A lot of firing and grenades are going off and when Joe stops to help and injured person on his team, Ben keeps going. Joe has to follow him to make sure his mission doesn't go down which makes them both get shot multiple times. Then, the moment of dejavu happens. The beginning of the movie is just how it ends. Joe said they are going to make it out alive, him and Ben. Joe then found a radio and told Ben to call for air force help. Joe then gets shot in the chest and Ben tries to save him but he then fails... Ben then goes back home and tells his son about how Joe was such a good man.
Review
I would definitely give this move a 5/5. All of the actors were great in showing how it would be when they have to go into war and they showed how the battles were for them. They even showed the struggle of soldiers missing their families back home and they just did an outstanding job in this movie. This movie demonstrated how badly it hurts when you get shot and how people struggle and fight. This movie really opened my eyes to what some of them go through and how they have to fight no matter what. I think this is one of the best World War 2 movies I've ever seen and I would definitely watch it again sometime.
