Saints and Soldiers
Saints and Soldiers is about Allied soldiers trapped behind German lines after the Malmedy massacre. Deacon and medic Gould manage to escape. Deacon spares the life of a German soldier (Rudolph) and upset Gould. Gould thinks the German soldier should have been killed. Deacon didn’t kill Rudolph because they were friends before the war. Deacon and Gould are joined by Kendrick and Gunderson on the way to find shelter. They also meet Winley, a British pilot. Gunderson wants to hide until the Allies retake the area, however while hiding they uncover a secret plot against the Allies. Now they are forced to find the closest Allie command center. While on the move, one of the soldiers (Kendrick), falls through the roof of a snow covered building. Now forced to find shelter; they find and woman and child who let Kendrick recover there. While staying there two German soldiers one of them being Rudolph stopped outside of the house. One soldier went to search the area and the other tried to rape the woman. Deacon stopped the attack and ended up killing one of the German soldiers. Rudolph ran into the woods, but was captured. Rudolph tells them where the German lines are and how to get through them in exchange for his freedom. The soldiers ran across a group of German soldiers. Gunderson and Kendrick are both killed during this encounter. Winley, Gould and Deacon continue to the jeep. They are now dressed as German soldiers. When the jeep turns towards the American lines the Germans discovered the trick. Now both the American forces and German forces are firing on the jeep. The Americans figure out they are Allied soldiers and start providing cover fire. Deacon is killed, so Gould and Winley were able to deliver the message.
I like the movie. Even though there was not a lot of trust in the beginning of the movie the men were able to work through that. In the end they worked together to deliver the pilot and his information to his command center. The movie had a very low budget, but it was a well-made movie. Even though there was not a lot of action scenes. There was conflict through the entire movie and it kept one interested. I would give this movie 5 stars.
