Top ten events of from 2000-20091. September 11, 2001- It is believed that on September eleventh of 2001 terrorists took over four air planes and tried to crash them all intentionally into important American buildings. Two of the planes hit The World Trade Center twin towers in New York. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. While another crashed into a field near Pennsylvania when it was being redirected towards Washington. 2,973 victims died that were in the planes and the buildings that got hit.

2. December 26, 2004- An earthquake caused by moving tectonic plates killed 230,000 people in fourteen countries. The countries Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand got the greatest impact from the Tsunami caused by the moving plates. It was the second largest earthquake recorded.3. October 8, 2005- With poor construction of buildings an earthquake at a magnitude of 7.7 easily killed 79,000 people in Pakistan. About 17,000 of the people killed were children in school, and 3 million people were left homeless. Since the earthquake occurred at the start of winter it also left many of the homeless to die in the cold.4. 2009 Flu Pandemic- In 2009 many people got sick, and still are getting sick, with the swine flu or H1N1. There is evidence that says that the flu originally started in Veracruz, Mexico. It was first exposed in April of 2009 and has been since then spread globally. On November 14 of 2009 there was recorded around 9,820 deaths from it just in North America.

5. November 5, 2008- America finally elected an African-American president in 2008. Barack Obama was inaugurated as America’s 44th president on January 21, 2009. He plans to with draw troops from Iraq, focus on going green, and help out the nation’s economy.

6. August 29, 2005- Hurricane Katrina was the worst thing that the U.S. had seen and was the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricane. It slammed into New Orleans and eighty percent of it flooded. We lost 1,464 people in the disaster and there are still thousands of former residents living in trailers in Mississippi and Louisiana.7. February 1st, 2003- During it’s twenty eighth mission re-entry to Earth, the Columbia Space Shuttle fell to pieces over Texas. This caused a loss of seven members of the crew. A piece of foam on the shuttles external tank fell off and hit the shuttles left wing and damaged the shuttles thermal protection which protects it from the atmosphere during re-entry. This caused space shuttle flight to be delayed for two years.8. January 15, 2009- The pilot of the Hudson river plane crash has been called a hero for saving 155 people. After the plane got hit by one or two birds in its engines just after three minutes of flying it needed to be brought down. The pilot did a great job of safely and slowly bringing it down into New York’s Hudson River and then checking afterwards to make sure everybody got off safe and sound.

9. June 5, 2004- One of Americas great Presidents died at the age of 93 with Alzheimer’s. Ronald Regan advanced the end of the Cold War and brightened the Republican Party. His wife Nancy speaks fondly of him and fundraises to help people suffering from Alzheimer’s.

10. December 25, 2008- A Nigerian allegedly tried to set up a bomb in his underwear and by lighting his crotch on fire, tried to set it off. With his father being a respected banker, a lot of people didn’t expect it to happen. The plane held over 300 people on it and with him being able to pass by security with the bomb, it might make airlines step up their security.Much of my information was obtained from Wikipedia and History Orb.
