Senator James Inhofe's Hot and Cold Media Spin Cycle:

According to Senator Inhofe, everything about global warming is just a huge hoax that was designed to scare people into thinking that climate change is a big problem. He says that the media will go along with anything like how they have been switching between their predictions of an upcoming ice age to global warming and back again since 1895. They tell us that every natural disaster is a result of global warming and that humans are to blame for the changes that are happening to Earth.

A scientist named Michael Mann developed what’s known as the “hockey stick graph”. It shows that over the past 900 years, the Earth’s temperature has remained relatively the same. At the start of the 20th century however, a spike in the temperature occurred, believed to be the result of increasing human industrial activity. Many scientists picked apart this graph, finding flaws in the research and have now reported the existence of the Medieval Warm Period as well as the Little Ice Age. During the warm period, scientists say that the temperature of the Earth was even warmer than it was now and during the ice age, temperatures had decreased significantly. Inhofe however, says how these periods of change occurred long before the existence of motorized vehicles and CO2 emissions. In about 1940, when man-made CO2 emissions began to rise steeply, the temperature of the Earth actually decreased until the 1970’s, causing scientists to tell of an upcoming ice age. Recent scientific studies have shown that Antarctica is actually getting colder and the ice is getting thicker. Other studies have shown that the sun has caused 50% of all 20th century temperature increases, not humans. Russian scientists have even predicted that global cooling may now be in the future due to a decrease in the output of the sun.

Inhofe also gives his opinion on the Kyoto Protocol claiming that it is just “economic pain for no climate gain”. He says that our history is filled with predictions of doom that have never come true. “The more the eco-doomsayers’ predictions fail, the more the eco-doomsayers predict.” The senator says that he has a lot of respect for scientists that are serious about discrediting the latest scares about climate change. The Kyoto Protocol wouldn’t have even existed if people had realized that the Earth was doing what it’s supposed to do and that humans had nothing to do with the changes that are going on according to him. He also says that future generations will look back on this and wonder why we cared so much and spent so much time and effort worrying about global warming and pointless solutions such as the Kyoto Protocol.

Inhofe blames the media for getting people hyped up about climate changes and thinks all the news reports and coverage about global warming and cooling are all a result of poor journalism. Senator Inhofe also discredits former Vice President Al Gore’s movie titled “An Inconvenient Truth” saying how he promoted the “hockey stick” chart to prove man’s negative impact on the climate, he said that hurricane activity has a link to global warming, and that polar bears are drowning in high numbers when studies show that they are actually thriving. Inhofe made almost a whole page full of accusations against Gore’s movie when in fact the senator has never actually seen the film.

I personally don’t really know what to make of this whole global warming thing. Senator Inhofe gives some really good reasons why climate change may not actually be happening but I myself am still skeptical. I don’t really think that Inhofe has any right to discredit Al Gore’s movie when he didn’t actually see the film with his own eyes. I also think that global warming/cooling or whatever is happening is something that everyone should worry about no matter if its human based or not. Even if it really is the human race that is making this happen, we should still be concerned about the future. Sure, it may already be going on and competely changing our ways isn't going to just get rid of the problem but we could prevent things from getting increasingly worse. No matter what James Inhofe says, climate change affects every living thing on this planet and we need to stop arguing about whose fault it is or isn’t and start doing something about it.
