The Health Care Reform Bill that was officially put into action by our newest President Barack Obama after about a year of debate is expected to cover 32 million Americans, and should cost $940 billion dollars in the next ten years. In 2014 some businesses will be able to purchase the insurance. In 2011 some seniors will be able to get fifty percent off brand name prescriptions on this insurance.
Who it covers:
- Americans are now required to have some sort of insurance, or be fined $750 dollars, or 2% of their income.
- Average companies with fifty or more employees are required to have coverage if any of their employees rely on the government for their insurance.
- Illegal immigrants cannot be covered.
- Individuals who purchase the coverage will have to pay a fee of $695 dollars, unless they have a poor income.
- Parents can keep their children on their insurance plan until the age of 26.
- Children with preexisting conditions can no longer be denied by insurance companies six months after the bill is passed, and in 2014 insurance companies can’t deny any person with preexisting medical conditions.
Abortion:
People hoping to have some sort of coverage when they try to file for abortion will not be in luck, the government will not pay for any sort of abortion so far. Special allowances will be made for the victims of rape and when the mother is in danger of dying.
What I think:
I think that this new bill is a good, and a bad thing. It helps a lot of people who are having troubles with insurance, and it's great that companies wont be able to look into previous medical conditions. Yet, it might put our countrie further into debt in raise taxes even more.
