I think a very interesting topic in the Pacific Front is the use of submarine warfare. United States submarines from the Philippines, Guam, Pearl Harbor, Ceylon, Trincomalee, Midway, and Australia were huge factors in bringing down Japan. By 1945 Japan's oil tanks were dry because the allied powers were using submarines to cut off oil transport, troop transport, and they sank their merchant fleets. 56% of Japanese merchant men were sunk by US submarines. An even bigger role of the US was when they warned of the Japanese fleet at midway and helped rescue fallen soldiers. After the Pearl Harbor attack president Roosevelt signed a new doctrine stating that unrestrict submarine warfare on Japan was okay. They could sink any ships in Axis waters without warning and not help out survivors. Pretty much Roosevelt felt that they should have no remorse for Japan.
A huge turning point that really hurt Japan was the Imperial Japanese Navy and the United States doctrine. It expressed that naval victories were only to be won by fleet battles and not by commerce raiding. The U.S. continued commerce raiding though and heavily relied on it. Even thought the U.S was vulnerable to submarine attacks, Japan didn't attack them because they just used their submarines for long range reconnaisance attacks.
I think submarine warfare is a very interesting topic and i think it changed the war a lot. I dont wanna give too much away, for i will have a lot of info on my power point and i look forward to doing more research.
