I thought it was a pretty exciting movie, but it also could be a little confusing at times. Towards the end of the movie, the three main guys kept on having flashbacks. That confused me some.
The movie really showed the violence that took place at Iwo Jima. The movie also pointed out the confusion that people have about the flag being raised at Iwo Jima. The first flag was put up only a few days into the battle. The raising of the flag didn't really signify anything, but that the Americans were making progress. The reason they took down the first flag, is because, some American politician wanted the flag back home. Then they raised a second flag, and that is what the picture shows.
The movie starts off with the Marines storming Iwo Jima, and a ton of them dying. Then the Americans finally make their way up a mountain and put up the flag.
The U.S. government decides to take three of the guys that put up the flag, and fly them back to the states. Next, the three guys are used as advertising so America can get more money for the war effort.
