The Pianist

I watched The Pianist with ben, josh, taylor, kyla, and brooke. The movie was okay but it would have been a lot better if Brooke wouldn't have been so distracting!!!

The movie is about a jewish pianist(Wladyslaw Szpilman) who played for a radio station during WW2. Their radio station gets bombed in the beginning and they are forced to live in the ghettoes. After a bit in the ghetto all of the families are transported by train to Treblinka, but Szpilman was saved by a jewish police officer and was then forced to be a slave. He saw some terrible things when he was a slave. Him and another slave almost got caught smuggling weapons into the ghetto but they found an old neighbor and hid with him for awhile. To the point of where they almost starved to death.

The German forces started taking tanks through the town and bombing all the houses and buildings to make sure no jews were still alive. Szpilman is then forced to run away. He runs a mile out of town to a bunch of buildings and hides in these building. A german officer catches him in one of these buildings but instead of killing him he asks him to play the piano and for awhile the german officer keeps bringing food to Szpilman. As freed prisoners of concentration camps are walking home they find a wounded german officer who ends up being the one that was stealing food for Szpilman and he tells them to find Szpilman to come free him. When Szppilman finds out of this its already too late and all the prisoners are gone. Szpilman continues to play for the WW2 radio and at the end when the slide pages are rolling with facts it says that Szpilman lived in Warsaw until 2000.

I didn't enjoy this movie nearly as much as i enjoyed Defiance. It was really slow throughout the whole movie and there wasn't really much war action, which i think is interesting to watch and see war strategies back then.

The movie was really long and kind of boring because the lack or war action. Ben and I are either going to watch Valkyrie or Saving Private Ryan next week. Hopefully we watch Saving Private Ryan because i haven't seen it yet.
