For my assigned blog, i watched the movie Schindler’s list. While it was long and confusing at some points, it was very powerful and put in perspective the amount of suffering the Jews went through. I like how it went chronologically, and followed both Schindler and the group of Jews. It made the event seem more realistic by not editing out people getting shot. I thought overall that it was an amazing movie to watch to understand the Jew’s suffering.
The movie is a true story about Oskar Schindler. Schindler used the war to make a fortune. He made a factory for pots and pans to sell to the German army and hired unpaid Jews living in Ghettos to work there. After a while, the jews were moved to another work camp. Schindler got his workers back by bribing and cajoling Nazis. He did this to help his business and to protect the jews at the camp. He eventually paid for each of over 1,100 jews to work at his factory where they would never be punished unjustly. He then purposely sabotoged everything they made and spent all of his money to keep them there. Then the war ends and he stays with them for a few hours. At the end there is a scene that he is looking at his belongings in front of all of the workers and he says he should have sold more so he could save more. The last scene is a video of the survivors visiting his grave and putting rocks on it. It said that there are 6,000 descendant from the Jews he saved.
While a graphic movie, Schindler’s List gave a very accurate portrayal of the events that happened to the Jews in Poland.
