Enemy at the Gates follows the military life of Vassili Zaitsev (Jude Law). In the begin of the movie, Vassili and millions of other soldiers were forced/had volunteered to serve in the fight of Stalingrad. Upon entry of Stalingrad, many of soldiers were forced onto the battlefield with the instructions of: if the soldiers before you are killed, pick up their guns and continue to fight the Germans. Throughout the movie, Vassili was against the wall, watching his comrades be killed and fighting to stay alive. Vassili met a lot of people that tried to help , but were always the ones that fell. Enemy at the Gates follows Vassili and a German sniper by the name of Erwin Konig (Ed Harris). The movie follows both snipers with their daily lives on the battlefield. In the end of the movie, Vassili and Erwin were decorated as heroes for their involvement in the war.
I would give Enemy at the Gates a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This movie peaked my curiosity and kept me entertained throughout the whole thing. I personally loved all of the violence that as involved with the war and the usage of battle strategy. The actors/actresses took their roles to a whole another level. The whole cast practiced and actually shot the guns involved (I know what they went through with firing that gun. It has a kick that takes a little getting used to, and I have actually also fired that gun myself. My whole family has shot it.)The cast played their roles and brought a new element to the movie itself. All together, the movie was directed beautifully, and at the same time showed you what the soldiers went through everyday.
