defiance is a movie set back in the WW-ll era. It focuses on the Bielski family, a family of Jews. In the movie the bielskis had 3 boys the two who are the main focus of the story are Tuvia and Zus Bielski. The Bielski parents and the rest of their village are killed by Germans during a Jew round up. Tuvia and Zus were both grown ups. When they came back to the village they see their dead parents and neighbors and decide to go to the forest, staying there. Upon enter the forest they almost immediately are forced to take charge of the refugees who have no means of survival. Day after day more Jews come flowing in and times get tougher so they become a partisan group known as the Bielski Otriad and go out on raids and "borrow" goods from farmers and germans. The Bielski's kill Nazi's and steal their stuff in order to fight and provide more for the people they protect. Zus and Tuvia have a fight and Zus takes most of the men and guns and joins a russian force to fight. While Zus is away Tuvia and the camp continue to struggle and sickness hits. Zus comes back long enough to help Tuvia get the medicine he so desperately needs. After some time the Nazi's deem them a formidable threat and surround the forest. The Nazi's then attack and the Bielski otriad fights and in the end makes it through due to the fact that Zus and the Jewish men with him left the russian's because of mistreatment and save the Otriad at a crucial point in the fight.
I gave this movie a 4.5 out of 5 stars because overall it was very good movie but it did under-do a couple of things. I liked how everything went in chronological order with what happened (i went into deeper detail by actually checking out the real story). The actors and director did well in portraying the everyday struggles and the fight for survival for the Jews. In lesser detail it also showed the fear everyday germans had of running into the Jews just because it means they could be killed by the Nazi's or robbed by the Jews. The details that entailed this movie were accurate and did well in showing how it was to be a Jew in those times. This movie was very good and i would gladly give it a 5 out of 5... but there were a few points in the movie where the director "fudged" the facts and made it a little more dramatic. Although overall it was a great movie.
