Saving Private Ryan
The movie Saving Private Ryan opens with the attacks of Normandy by the Allies. It took place on June 6th, 1944. Mother of four sons is informed that three of them have been killed but Private Ryan is still unaccounted for. Tom Hanks is the leader of his unit of eight men and their mission is to find and bring back Private Ryan after the death of his brothers in the same week. The problem is that Ryan is missing behind enemy lines and Captain Miller(Hanks) has to lead his soldiers through Nazi territory. There is a very high chance that Ryan has been killed but the Chief of Staff, General Marshall, still sends out a unit into a very dangerous area. The unit started to lose men because the area was very dangerous, but they ended up finding Ryan. Only 2 out of the 8 men survived that went with Miller. Private Ryan was given the news of what had happened and refused to go home and wants to keep fighting. Miller ends up getting killed while fighting with Ryan. Private Ryan ends up going home and tries to live life like he used to.
I really liked this movie because it involved Iowa and I thought that was pretty cool. I also felt that Spielberg tried to make it as if you were actually in the movie to give you the sense of what WWII was like. Even though it seems very hard to do that, but I think he did a good job.of making us feel the terror of being there. I also like Tom Hanks as an actor and feel that he did very good in this movie.
