Policy of Containment- A US policy created to stop the spread of communism. 1947

Truman Doctrine- America will help any country that is threatened by communism; mainly Greece and Turkey  1947 -Troy

Iron Curtain Speech - The “Iron Curtain Speech” was a speech given by Winston Churchill discussing the Soviet’s occupation of eastern Europe and their desire to expand.

Brinkmanship- Letting a situation to become extremely dangerous in order to get results. -kyle

Marshall Plan- The U.S paying to bring up the European economy. -Aaron

Massive Retaliation- A strategy of military counter attack that involves the use of nuclear weapons. -Treviño

Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty- The United States and the Soviet Union signed the ABM Treaty as part of an effort to control their arms race in nuclear weapons

CIA- An agency that investigates and gathers security information through human intelligence-1947

Strategic Arms Limitation Talks 1972-SALT I and SALT II where agreements that they're signed by U.S. and the Soviet Union. They intended to restrain the arms race in strategic and ballistic missiles armed with nuclear weapons.

Missile Defense System-  A type of missile defense intended to shield a country against incoming missiles, such as intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBMS) or other ballistic missiles. -Naval weaponry providing a defense system (weaponry for warships)  -Daytona

Mutual Deterrence- Stops the use of the nuclear weapons because neither side wants to use them.

domino theory- one communist win means many communist wins

Mutual Assured Destruction- Everyone knows they are going to be destroyed, so it stops the use of nuclear weapons. #USA

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)- Our alliance with most of Western Europe against the Soviet Union. UK, France, West Germany, Italy, Portugal, Norway, Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Luxembourg.

DeStalinization: Disregarding or ignoring the influence, image and leadership of Joseph Stalin from World War 2.

Warsaw Pact- A military treaty and association of European countries formed in 1955 and dissolved in 1991. In answer to NATO. Included Bulgaria, Czech, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union. Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.

Nuclear Non-Proliferation Test Ban Treaty- It was used to try and prevent the wide spread of nuclear weapons but it could still be used for energy.
