Monday- After lenin's death Stalin became the general secretary Stalin's Five Year plan has a series of nationalized plans for economic development of the Soviet Union.The purges were also called "Stalin's Terror". Stalin's wife committed suicide in 1935. Stalin lost his power because he passed away.  Stalin was extremely scared to die. Scorched Earth Policy was a russian tactic. The daily temp doesn't climb above freezing. The german army did NOT achieve their main goal: taking down the Soviet army. Sergei Kirov was a huge Democratic leader. Stalin signed the "No Step Back" order. 

Tuesday- Lenin suffered a stroke in 1922 and died. By the time Lenin died, he did not like Stalin, After lenin died, there was a power struggle to see who would take over. Stalin won and was in power by the late 1920's. Russia drops out of WW1(1917) to fight in the Bolshevik Revolution, Russia became communist and changed name to USSR in 1922. Purges and deportations to slave labor camps in Siberia (Gulags). Strengthened the intelligence and secret service, created a "cult of Personality". Nationalization and Collectivization of the Soviet economy.  Five year plans, policies led to Famine in Ukraine (5-10 million died-consider a genocide by some) Banned Religion. 

The USSR in WW2 signed German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact in 1939 leading to the invasion of Poland, Also invaded Estonia Latvia, Lithuania and Finland in 1939. Signed Neutrality Pact with Japan 1941, Invaded by Germany in June 1941. (USA. take notes later)

Wednesday- Career Fair/ early out

Thursday- Invasion of Poland(1939), Battle of Moscow (1941). 

Friday- USA: US never signed the treaty of Versailles Republican Warren Harding won the 1920's election. The Neutrality Acts were passed by the US in the 1930's. Neutrality act of 1935,1936,1937,and 1939. Quarantine Speech-1937. Bases for Destroyers was passed in September, 1940 between the US and Great Britain. the Lend-Lease Act got rid of the Neutrality Acts. This allowed the US to sell, lend, or gave war materials. Selective Training and Service Act passed in September, 1940 and ended in 1947.
