Cold War- A political, strategic and ideological struggle between the US and the Soviet Union from 1945 - 1990. It spread throughout the world in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
Socialism- Everyone gets equal
Capitalism- Work for what you earn
"West"- Western European Nations. Great Britain, France, US, Canada, Germany, etc.
"East"- Eastern Aisan countries. Russia and such.

Post WWII / Cold War Goals for US- Promotes open markets for US goods to prevent another depression. We promoted democracy throughout the world, especially Asia and Africa (There was a fear that people would resort to communism when times were tough).
Post WWII/Cold War Goals for USSR- Wanted to create greater security for itself and encourages friendly governments on its borders so they could protect them. They wanted to spread communism throughout the world.
Marshall Plan- A massive economic aid plan to help Europe recover from WWII to prevent communism from spreading.
NATO- North Atlantic Treaty of Nations. -A defensive alliance. The first peacetime alliance in US History. Members- America, Canada, Britain, France, Holland, Belgium, Luxemborg, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, and Italy.
If World War III happened after the Cold War, it would have been NATO vs. The Warsaw Pact. The Warsaw Pact was another defensive alliance but the USSR version.
CIA- Centra Intelligence Agency- Gathers intelligence around the world to protect America. They spy on everyone including our allies.
