d-day and european front

d-day

was also known as Operation Neptune or Operation Overlord

began on Tuesday June 6, 1944 at 6:30 am.they invasion happened in two phases

1. an air assault

2.amphibious Landing

Germany was basically dug into the beach landing zones

airborne divisions were dropped behind enemy lines right after day begins

machine guns and other high caliber weapons were in the fortified areas

thousands of miles of mines were laid on the beaches

the us had a major problem crossing the english channel

the invasion of Fronace during dday was very important role in the European Front of WWII

this was a very bloody battle and the US had many casualties

the allies had a very small chance for victory because Germany was so well protected on the beaches

dday lasted about 3 weeks

the warshaw uprising began in late July 1944

the battle of the bulge was a major and the most imperatant battle in WWII

turkey losses their Neutrality in February 1945

turkey didnot lose a single soldier

the rhine River was the final obstacle for the US and the rest of the allies

Dividing and conpuering parts of Hermany was the strategy of the allies

Germany had one last struggle for italy

operation plunder was a success

the Soviets were the first outsiders to see the concentration camps the day was on July 23, 1944 near Lublin there were only 1000 survivors because the Germans left it abandoned

Hitler was on the edge of defeat and he committed suicede on April 30, 1945

the war ended on May 7, 1945

Germany surrendered at Reims. the following day, Soviet headquarters in Berlin ended the Second World War in Europe
