Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty- agreement to stop spread of nuclear weapons. countries that have nuclear weapons are allowed to keep them
International atomic Energy Agency(IAEA)1957- official UN agency to inspect nuclear projects/operations
INF treaty(1987)- reduced ground based missiles 300-3400 mile range
Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty(START)1991- removing nuclear weapons throughout the world(US and Soviet Union). 80% removed and this expired in 2009
Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty(SORT)2003- stockpiles of nuclear weapons to be cut in half
New START(2011)- number of nuclear weapon launchers to be cut in half
United Nations- world-wide peace keeping organization set up after WWII. US joined it. Will not invade, but will help countries in need of military assistance
