Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897 in Kansas. Her Grandma was dealing with a lot of family deaths and her husband's mental conditions getting worse so Amelia moved in with her. She was only 50 miles away from her parents so she could still go see them. When Amelia was a young girl she was a big tom boy. Her Grandma really didn't like that behaveor because she was worried that Amelia would get hurt so she did it on her own time.

Her father was an alcoholic and would do great in a job but then he'd start to spend more than they had and he'd get fired. This caused the family to move around a lot. Her dad got a job in Des Moines, Iowa and that was when Amelia left her Grandparents house and went back with her family. While in Des Moines Amelia saw her first plane at the state fair. Both of Amelia's Grandparents died and left her and her sister with everything, but left nothing to Amelia's parents. The family had to move again to Minnesota. All of this moving around didn't slow Amelia though, she was in school the whole time, did well in school, and played sports. When WWI came about Amelia was brought in and became a nurse for the Volunteer Aid Detachment.

Ameilia was a natural pilot and after she first flew she knew she was meant to fly. She set standards high for herself and on May 21, 1932 (May 21 is the day I was born) Amelia took off for her solo flight over the atlantic. She was the first woman to fly across and the second person. Amelia's last flight started on May 21, 1937 from Oakland, California. It was a long journey and all was going well untill they were in Lae, New Guinea on June 29. From Lae Ameilia Earhart was heading 2,200 miles into the Pacific to Howland Island and she never got there. Search teams were sent out, but nothing was ever found.
