Iran is located in Western Asia between Gulf of Omen, the Caspian Sea, and the Persian Gulf. The capital is Tehran, and Iran has a population of 65,875,224. A very important person in Iran is Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hostyni Khanene’i, who has been the Supreme leader since 1989. He was born on July 17, 1939 in Mashhad. He went to the Rudimentary and learned more about Hawza. This is a place where they train in their religion that is used in Iran. He got arrested in Birjand in 1963, for Islamic activities. Once he got out he went to schools and taught Nahj Al-Balagheh. In the years prior to his presidency he was tortured for three years, and almost died due to a bomb in a tape recorder that permanently damaged his hand.In 1981 someone assassinated the former President Ali Rajai, so Khamenei ran for president and won by a landslide. Some things that he wanted to do were eliminate deviation, liberalism, and American influenced leftists. He ran for two terms, 1981-1989. During the Iraq-Iran war he helped get the country through it. He also helped with the decision once the Iraqi people were out of the country to invade their country. There have only been three major people to influence the people of Islamic Republic and Khamenei was one of them. One hundred people were killed, four thousand arrested on the 2009 election, because of a huge protest. This has been one of the challenges with his leadership. He is now the Supreme leader of Iran. So whatever the president wants to do he has the final say if they are going to do it or not. Ahmadinejad is someone who is very well known in the country, but Khamenei also has a lot of power. Khamenei makes the biggest decisions; it goes through him if they are going to do anything. He has representatives reporting from every place to him. The one person he looked up to was Khomeini. He looked up to Khomeini and thought a lot of him. He believes what he does today because of Khomeini vision of Islam.Khamenei has never really liked the United States. When we invaded Iraq he called the United States having “Blind Terrorism.” President Obama tried to start a new beginning with Iran, but they smashed that down and didn’t try to cooperate with the United States. I then learned that insulting a leader in Iran can lead to being beaten or going to jail. I feel sorry for the journalist, politicians, and writers who ever said anything bad about him. I never really understood why Iran doesn’t at least try to cooperate with the United States. I personally don’t think that there should only be one person in charge of deciding what the president gets to do. I think it should be a group of people.
