African- American Activism

A. Philip Randolph organized the country`s first all black trade union. His work and the help of others started the civil rights movement. He was also a African American Civil rights leader and and the founder of both the March on Washington Movement and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, a project for labor and particularly for African-American labor organizing. During This Roosevelt appointed more than 100 lead government positions to african americans.

Mary McLeod Bethune, was one who got a position, and she dedicated herself to promoting oppertunities to young african americans. She was hired by the president to be the head the Division of Negro Affairs of the National YouthAdministration Bethune worked to ensure that the NYA hired african american administrators and provide benefits to minority students. She rented out a two story building where she taught african american girls. Her school opened in October 1904, with six pupils five girls and her own son, there was no equipment, crates were used for desks and charcoal was used as pencils, and ink came from crushed elderberries.I think this was kinda cool that Roosevelt appointed african americans for government positions because i think it helped to make all races equal.
