Way back in prehistoric times some say that groups of people lived in south Afganistan. In 500 B.C. king Darius I conquered the lands of Afganistan. Around 329-327 B.C. Alexander the Great conquered Afganistan on his way to take India. After Alex died Afganistan was ruled by the Seleucid empire. Afganistans first real leader came to power in 1826 his name was Dost Muhammed. Throughout Muhammed's reign countries were trying to take control of Afganistan. Countries like Britain and Russia. As to war Afganistan was a neutral country till the late 1970s. In the early 1970s Afganistan had really bad economic problems. The countries U.S.A. and the Soviet Union helped them out with this problem. In 2001 the Taliban militia destoyed statues all over the country some were even of Budda.
