My name is Nathan Ohms. I was born in Omaha, Nebraska at Bergan Mercy Hospital on February 8, 1994, at 8:22 P.M. My parents are Neil and Melanie Ohms. I also have one brother whose name is Daniel. Daniel is a senior this year at HCHS. I am currently a sophomore. Mr family also has one dog. His name is Hoss, and he is a Saint Bernard, Golden Retriever cross. My family is involved in a farming operation. We live south and east of Harlan about 9 miles. We raise corn, soybeans, and alfalfa, but my favorite part of our operation is our hog production enterprise. We are what is termed a farrow to finish operation, which means we raise hogs from birth to market weight. We have about 150 sows and market about 1500 head of market hogs per year. There are not a lot of operations like ours in Shelby County any more, most hogs are raised under contract where they are farrowed by one individual and finished by someone who has no ownership in the hogs they raise. We farm about 900 acres in Shelby and Harrison counties. My parents and my brother and I are all involved in this. We are still a family farm.My favorite sport, as anyone who know me is aware, is tennis. I have enjoyed playing tennis since I was in elementary school. I couldn’t wait until I was a freshman so I could play on the high school team. I played number 4 on the HCHS team and had a good first year. My doubles partner last year was Mitch Gross. I play tennis pretty much year round and hope that this year is a great year for our team. I hope someone from the team makes it to the State tournament this year. Maybe that could be me, but I know I have a lot of work to do to make that happen. I like watching any tennis match.
I am also involved in 4-H. I joined when I was in 3rd grade and have been very active for the last 7 years. My current club is the Nishna Valley Navigators. This is a new club that my parents started 4 years ago. I have held a few offices in the club, but the main thing I like about 4-H is showing hogs at the fair. My first year of showing I have a grand champion at the fair. I also do some other projects and my club is involved in a community service project to mark the location of the country schools that existed in Shelby County.
This is the main points about me. If you would like to learn more all you have to do is ask. I hope you have learned more about me by reading this blog. I finally think that I have a grasped on blogging, and I look forward to doing it for the rest of the time that I am in U.S. History.By: Nathan Ohms.
